Wakulla Springs Alliance honors Jim Stevenson as a Wakulla Springs Champion

The Wakulla Springs Alliance Board recognized Jim Stevenson as a Wakulla Springs Champion at its February meeting.

After a long career as naturalist and manager of many of the state’s environmental lands and resources with the Florida Park Service, State Department of Natural Resources, and later Department of Environmental Protection, Jim came to be known as the “father of Florida springs protection.”

In 1992 he formed the Wakulla Spring Basin Working Group to work for the protection of Wakulla Spring. In 1999 he convened the Florida Springs Task Force. He coordinated the Wakulla Springs and Ichetucknee Springs basin Working Groups until 2010.

In 2012, he founded the Wakulla Springs Alliance from the remnants of the working group and the Hydrogeology Consortium. He has served on the WSA Board ever since, retiring in 2022. The plaque shown here enumerates his virtues.
